For crisp, clean drinking water in small family or single-person households, Brita offers their Slim Pitcher with Filter. The filter reduces impurities and harmful substances from tap water and holds approximately 40 liquid ounces. The slim pitcher fits neatly into many refrigerator doors, enabling users to maximize shelf space. Certified by the National Sanitation Foundation International, Brita water filters contain a mesh screen to catch sediment and particles as tap water flows through into the pitcher's basin. Brita pitchers employ an ion exchange resin with activated carbon granules to draw mercury, zinc, copper and cadmium from tap water, trapping these harmful elements inside the filter. Brita filters eradicate up to 98 percent of the lead found in tap water while significantly reducing other impurities and dangerous bacteria including cryptosporidium, giardia, and benzene. Additionally, the odor and flavor of chlorine are removed from drinking water. Brita filters should be replaced every 40 gallons or after two months of use. Replacement filters can be purchased separately. Wash the Slim Pitcher by hand in lukewarm water with a mild detergent.  An Exercise in Frustration November 29, 2008
I just wrote this to Brita about my slim pitcher:
I have model 0803 and to say I hate it would be an understatement. If I hated it just a tiny bit more, it would be in the garbage even though it isn't two months old and I have four more filters to use.
The lid falls off whenever I try to pour out of it, the innards want to fall out which probably makes the lid come off, and the little spout thingy falls off. It is as though no one ever actually tried to USE the darn thing before they sent a whole load of them to WalMart.
Just so's you know--it's a piece of garbage and I'll never trust the Brita brand again.

Seems to be a different model than the one on Amazon, but the other reviewers have the same problems I did except no carbon in the bottom in my case. This pitcher stinks. Try another brand.
Tastes great, saves a ton of $! November 23, 2008
I bought this for two reasons: One, with the economy being what it is these days, I was looking for some ways to save some money and previously we bought a lot of bottled water. Two, we bought one specific brand that only came in individual bottles, and I could see we were producing WAY too much waste by buying them.
I'm surprised to find that the water does taste pretty good (and I am VERY picky), way better than "naked" tap water though not quite as crisp as purified bottled water. Bottom line is I can fill the pitcher from the tap without any additional costs for water and I have completely eliminated the massive waste we were generating! The filters last a long tme, and I think this is a great way to help the environment and save a bit of money as well.

Great when you FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS November 19, 2008
Mine just came yesterday and took about 20 minutes to get it ready. It's very important to Follow the Instructions provided. People have complained about black particles in their water, I believe that is because there filters were not in all the way.
Make sure to follow the instructions for installing the filter perfectly because it is very important. They ask you to soak it in cold water for 15 minutes; I put it in a plastic cup from a fast food place with cold water for 15 minutes and it ate through the coating the cups have and the water turned grey and had some of those black carbon particles in the cup, which is perfectly fine that's exactly why you soak it for 15 minutes. I then put it into my cleaned Pitcher, making sure the filter lined up with the groove to hold it in place properly. It goes in easy, if it's going in hard make sure you are putting it in the right way. I believe the only reason people have complained about the particles in their water is they did something wrong. Make sure the filter is in as much as it goes so that it is sealed properly. I see the particles in the top of the pitcher where you add more water to be filtered. But that's not a problem it's Supposed to do that. It will NOT get into your drinking water once it's filtered. If you see them in your drinking water check if you did something wrong
I was amazed how crystal clear the water was after everything was setup, especially since the water used to soak the filter was so grey colored. I have found zero black carbon particles in the water since i've filled it up (i've filled it about 4-5 times now). The lid for the filter makes a tight seal when put on properly, I was very happy to find after filling it once i could fill the filter again so when i use up the filtered water it filters more of the unfiltered water (wow sorry if that's a bit confusing)
Anyways for only $12 i highly recommend this product. I'm gna get a few more for Christmas Presents this year.

We discontinued our bottled water service at my office, and I was looking for a substitute. Since I have a mini fridge in my office, this was a perfect fit as it fits right in the door. The water tastes great too!
